SANKALP-STRIVE schemes get Cabinet nod, SMEs-Business associations to be key stakeholders in the scheme

New Delhi, Oct 12 (KNN) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) and Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE) scheme aiming at boosting the Skill India Mission.

The schemes are to be carried out by the support of the World Bank.

The prime focus of the scheme would be to facilitate regulation of skill training and catalysing industry efforts in vocational training space.

Under the schemes, national bodies for accreditation & certification which shall regulate accreditation and certification in both long and short term Vocational Education and Training (VET) would be set up by the government.

The scheme will function with joint efforts from different key stakeholders including Centre, State and Industry comprising of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), business association and industry clusters.

Both the schemes are aimed at institutional reforms and improving quality & market relevance of skill development training programs in long and short term.

The government in a press release said that with the scheme to roll out soon, it is expected to develop a skilling ecosystem that will support the country's overall rise in the Ease of Doing Business index. (With PIB Inputs) (KNN/ DA)
