SC indefinitely extends March 31 deadline for linking Aadhaar

New Delhi, Mar 14 (KNN) The Supreme Court has indefinitely extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar with mobile phones, tatkal passports and for opening  bank accounts from the existing March 31, 2018 deadline.

The SC said that its interim order on not insisting Aadhaar, except for giving subsidy, will remain in force till the five-judge bench gives its judgment on petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar.

Chief Justice Mishra pointed it had enough of such “piecemeal” notifications and legislations issued by the government to link one service or the other.

He said it was time the court stepped in and stopped passing interim orders extending the deadline.

On December 15 last year, the apex court had extended the deadline for linking of Aadhaar with bank accounts and mobile phones to March 31.
