New Delhi, July 5 (KNN) The first full-fledged Finance minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman was the first ever Fin Min to break the tradition of carrying a briefcase on Budget Day. She chose to hold a bahi khaata instead of a briefcase.

CEA describes the red cover that replaces briefase for the first time, calls it the traditional 'bahi khata'.

CEA says the traditional 'bahi khata' symbolises departure of slavery from our western thought.

A bahi khaata, which translates to a statement of account, refers to the Budget being a presentation of accounts of the Union government.

In fact, the Ashoka symbol on the bahi khaata symbolises that the Budget may depart from the clutches of western thought.
