Jamshedpur, July 29 (KNN) The communal clashes that took place in the steel city last week, leading to curfew for three days, took a toll on the small and medium enterprises causing a huge production loss of around Rs 500 crore.

The city witnessed sporadic arson and group clashes over an alleged eve-teasing incident in Mango area on last Monday which was followed by communal clashes and curfew.

According to the businessmen, though administration took all steps and efforts to calm the city, the business environment was adversely affected by the imposition of curfew in the town.

Santosh Khetan, General Secretary, Adityapur Small Industries Association(AIADA), Jamshedpur told KNN there is a huge indirect impact of the curfew on our industrial circle as incident took place in East Singhbhum District that is adjacent to (AIADA) which is a part of  Sarai-Kharsawan District.

“Around 70,000 workers that are engaged in over 900 small and medium enterprises based in the command area of AIADA who live in the affected area were actually bound to be absent from the duty,” Khetan said.

Since SME’s come under AIADA domain, they suffered 2 days of production, said Khaitan.

Curfew was clamped for 1 day in Jamshedpur city so there was no direct loss of production of big industries as their employees (who were having Gate Pass of their establishment) were allowed to go on duty.

But the dispatching process of final materials to some Big Industries like TATA motors and other industries based in Jamshedpur were also affected ue to this clash.
Khaitan added “End of this curfew left us with a huge production loss of 500 crore.”

Apart from the industry, the small traders, shop keepers and daily wage earners also incurred huge loss. (KNN / Zeba)
