TN govt wants to act tough against commercial tax evaders

Chennai, Jul 18 (KNN)  The Tamil Nadu Government has warned that stringent action will be taken against evaders of commercial taxes, a major source of revenue for the state government.

“The Hon’ble Minister directed that, among the work areas, scrutiny of returns, speedy implementation of Enforcement Wing proposal shall be given special focus by Assessment order. Further, stringent action shall be taken in respect of tax evaders and cases of tax evasion detected in movement of goods,” said a TN government press release quoting the Minister of Commercial Taxes and Registration, B V Ramanaa.
 
The Minister instructed the Commercial Tax Department to take coordinated action against those who draw illegal benefits from wrong input tax credit.
 
He also asked the department to scrutinize the cases involving negative and lesser growth rate and where huge claims and carry forwards of input tax credit is claimed.
 
The Minister recently had a review meeting with Commercial Taxes Joint Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners where the secretary to the Government Sunil Paliwal and Commissioner of Commercial Taxes K Manivasan were present.
 
He pointed out the revenue growth rate of 8.13 per cent in the month of June 2013 and 4.21 per cent up to the month of June 2013 in the current financial year and called for focused efforts by officials of the department to reach the revenue target.
 
He instructed that the growth rate has to be achieved by all divisions and by all Assessment Circles. In this connection, he observed that the Large Tax Payers Unit Division has to make special focus on completing pending Back year assessment and implementing Enforcement wing proposals to increase the growth rate up to month during the current financial year.
 
As commercial Taxes revenue contributes to a major share of state revenue necessary for the social development schemes and growth schemes of the state, all commercial taxes officials were instructed by the to undertake serious efforts in their work responsibilities to increase the revenue growth rate.  (KNN)
