New Delhi, Jan 24 (KNN)  Reserve Bank of India has now permitted individuals travelling to Nepal and Bhutan to carry Indian currency in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations, subject to a limit of Rs 25,000.

“Earlier, individuals travelling to Nepal and Bhutan were allowed to carry Indian currency without any limit in denomination of only up to Rs 100. This has been relaxed to mitigate the hardship faced by individuals travelling to Nepal and Bhutan from India,” the apex bank said in a notification on Thursday.

In this regard, it has suitably amended the regulations to incorporate the relaxation.

Earlier, currency denominations of Rs 100 in Nepal were banned in Nepal on India’s request to crackdown on increasing cases of fake currency.  (KNN/ES)
