UIDAI Pushes Privacy-Driven Offline Verification As New Aadhaar App Nears Launch

New Delhi, Nov 20 (KNN) The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) held a stakeholder outreach webinar on ‘Offline Verification using the Aadhaar App’, ahead of the launch of the new Aadhaar App, to help strengthen the growing ecosystem for secure, paperless and privacy-focused identity verification.

More than 250 entities and individuals from diverse sectors participated in the session, which provided an overview of the app’s features and the benefits of offline Aadhaar verification.

The UIDAI CEO highlighted the objective of promoting offline verification as a secure, convenient and privacy-protecting alternative to sharing physical copies of Aadhaar, which can increase the risk of misuse.

He emphasised the role of the new app in enabling users to verify and share their identity details digitally while retaining full control over the information they choose to disclose.

A detailed presentation by UIDAI officials outlined the purpose, scope and technical framework of the offline verification process, including integration pathways for entities interested in adopting it.

The session covered multiple use cases such as hotel check-ins, residential society access and event entry, along with verification modes like QR-based authentication and offline face verification.

Officials explained that the upcoming Aadhaar App will allow users to share complete or selective Aadhaar information, store Aadhaar details of up to five family members, lock or unlock biometrics with a single click and update mobile numbers and addresses with ease.

These features, they noted, are designed to enhance security while improving user convenience.

The Authority encouraged stakeholders to explore potential applications and remain engaged as additional capabilities are rolled out with the launch of the new Aadhaar App, aimed at advancing secure and user-centric digital identity services nationwide.
