New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) In a move which will help the employees while switching jobs anywhere in India, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has started giving out unique account numbers (UAN) to its subscribers.

Once a UAN is allotted to an employee, he or she need not go through his or her employer to provide details to EPFO.

“UAN is being allotted to each contributing employee by EPFO.  Allotment of UAN has  been  a  long  pending  demand  both  of  employer  and  employee.  It  is expected  that  the  allotment  and  deployment  of the  UAN  will  substantially lower the  cost  of compliance  and  shall  also  in  its  ultimate  form,  save  the employer from verification of various claims made by employee to EPFO,” it said in a letter to the employers.

As  of  now,  the  identity  of  any  employee  is  established  only  if  the employer  certifies  the  same, it said.

Aadhaar is amongst the four identity proof selected by the EPFO as know-your customer that will be seeded to each PF account number. The others include NPR number, Permanent Account number and bank account number.

“For KYC, a number of options have been provided.  However,  priority  should  be  given  to  capturing  AADHAAR/NPR  Number  and  PAN.  Saving Bank account detail of the member is also mandatory,” EPFO said.  (KNN/SD)
