UP has maximum no. of sick MSME units in India followed by Maharashtra and Gujarat

New Delhi, Nov 30 (KNN) Uttar Pradesh has the maximum number of sick units in India with Gujarat and Maharashtra at the second and third position. As per provisional data compiled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) the number of sick micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in March, 2015 was 5, 37,286.

According to the state- wise data on Sick Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as on   March 31, 2015 as reported by Scheduled Commercial Banks, UP has 84063 sick units out of which 83987 are micro and small enterprises while 76 are medium units.

Gujarat, which is considered to be one of the leading states in terms of business environment and ease of doing business, has 49382 sick units.

Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have 49293 and 45114 sick units respectively.

Meanwhile, according to the data, the states including Sikkim, Mizoram, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli have less than 100 sick units.

The Ministry of MSME has already notified a ‘Framework for Revival and Rehabilitation of MSMEs’ vide a Gazette Notification dated 29.05.2015 for the purpose of facilitating the promotion and development of MSMEs.

Under this framework, any enterprise can seek revival and rehabilitation benefit through a Committee constituted by the banks with representatives from State Governments, experts, regional or zonal head of the bank and the officer in charge of MSMEs credit department of the bank. (KNN Bureau)
