World Bank rank on ease of doing biz relates to SMEs: Govt

New Delhi, Jul 19 (KNN) The Government does not agree with the World Bank giving India the ranking of 134 in ease of doing business contending the report concerns parameters relating to only the small and medium enterprises.
"The report ranks countries according to the regulations in place only for small and medium enterprises but which, owing to its name, often gets mistaken to refer to general business environment," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, also holding charge of the Corporate Affairs Ministry said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha yesterday.
However, the moot point which the industry organisations particularly relating the SMEs raise is that the World Bank report is not wide off the mark as regards SMEs.
That itself should be a cause for concern for the government which is now engaging with the World Bank report which is at least partly correct, going by the government's own admission. (KNN/PC)
