WPI inflation eases to 5.2% in April

The WPI for ‘All Commodities’ rose by 0.2 per cent in April this year to 180 from 179.8 for the previous month, according to official data.
Fuel inflation had declined to 8.93 per cent for the month under review as against 11.22 per cent in the previous month.
Food articles inflation declined to 8.64 per cent from 9.9 per cent in the previous month.
The core inflation stood at 3.4 per cent (3.5 per cent).
Inflation for most products from the small sector also increased. “The index for textiles group rose by 0.9 per cent to 142.6 from 141.3 for the previous month due to higher price of jute yarn (13 per cent), cotton yarn (4 per cent, gunny and hessian cloth (3 per cent) and tyre cord fabric, jute sacking bag and manmade fibre (1 per cent each). However, the price of woollen textiles (1 per cent) declined, according to official data.
The wholesale price index for wood and wood products, paper and paper products, rubber and plastic products increased, chemicals and chemical products while index for leather and leather products declined.
Meanwhile, WPI for February now stands revised upwards to 5.03 per cent from 4.7 per cent projected earlier, official data said. (KNN/SD)
