Mumbai, Oct 19 (KNN) City based Ketto is an online fundraising space,  a crowd-funding platform that allows individuals, corporates and NGOs to raise funds for their favourite social causes and ideas using social media and e-commerce in fun and engaging ways.

The company aims to increase engagement and participation among NGOs, its supporters and corporates to raise funds while bringing down the cost of doing the same. It claims to be getting over 15,000 unique investors on its platform per month.

KNN caught up with Varun Seth, the Co-founder of Ketto.org to learn more about the enterprise.

Founded in 2012, along with Zaheer Adenwala and bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor, the firm aims at providing the opportunities to the economically weaker section of the society following the method of crowdfunding on an online platform.

Kunal Kapoor, being one of the co-founders and a celebrity support has successfully connected individuals and brands with fundraisers.

Gaining immense popularity, Ketto has emerged as a global network with over 40% of its user base from outside India.

“We had this vision of connecting people together on a single platform to raise funds,” said Varun Seth, the Co-founder of Ketto.

“It has been noted that 99 percent of the total funds is poured in by only 1 per cent of the social sphere,” he added.

Though the enterprise is at its peak of success today, it wasn’t barred from facing uncertainties initially. “The funding was one of the major issues to us” said the Co-founder. “Convincing people to invest in our portal was another challenge,” he further added.

Lack of good payment gateways available in India, very high drop rates were some other road rocks for the newly formed enterprise.

Ketto has crowd-funded over 30 campaigns and raised over 45 lacs. The traction has been very favourable lately for the start-up, especially for causes in Education & Sports.

Supported by organizations like Google Grants, London Business School, kwan.in and few others, Ketto also helps the non-profits to raise funds for supported and listed causes by connecting them to companies and individuals alike.

“The e-commerce is becoming quite popular lately, and the potential for online market has been increasing,” said Seth giving his views on the growing E-commerce trend.

The co-founder was of the view that it is the best time to be an entrepreneur, and that lot of support is coming in from across the world and the mind setting is opening up to support and nurture good ideas and people.

As for the government support in the entrepreneurial sector in India, the entrepreneur holds the view that a lot more can be done to accelerate the growth of SMEs in India.

Having projects across 10 causes which include - water, sports, education, children, women’s empowerment, health and sanitation, malnutrition, environment, disabilities, the start-up plans to expand progressively in the forthcoming years.

“We are looking forward to expand outside the boundaries of the country. Also we are aiming to engage lot more people into funding on our way ahead,” concluded Seth. (KNN/ J)
