KNN caught with Head of the Corporation Relations at Aasaanjobs, Siddhartha Das to learn more about the startup.
According to Das, conventional market placement consultancies are not of much use in the recruitment process. Most people aspiring for jobs tend to go to open consultancies in the market but end up with problems.
“Most market consultancies have expertise in only one area. They specialize in placement consultancy for recruitment in only one sector,” Das said, adding that there is a substantial lack of access to the companies in such consultancies.
“We try to resolve this problem by bringing technology design and innovation into the process. We digitize all the information available to us and store it in a database,” he said.
In addition, Aasaanjobs has launched several mobile apps for different interfaces, having different applications for candidates, clients as well as partners.
“We dived into launching mobile apps because it is a more convenient way to exploit technology. The app for the candidate works in such a manner that he can search for job options and every specific detail related to it very quickly. At one click, the entire information is on his phone,” Das said.
“As for the client, the app is no less convenient. Any information related to the scheduling pops up on the app for the recruitment process. Also, the information at the end of recruitment can be derived easily, for example the information about the acceptance or rejection and the reason for the same,” he said.
Aasaanjobs carries the profile of being very data centric. Most of our staff are alumina from various IITs. We have 20 people working in our team currently that are from IIT Bombay itself, he said. The staff specialize in the technological aspects and they have built a match making algorithm for the website. The algorithm sorts the data and information based on various different factors. On one click, the algorithm functions and all the relevant information pops-up.
The Head of Corporation Relations at Aasanjobs disclosed that the enterprise has not yet come across any major setback as yet, although they have spent quite a lot of time figuring out the best way to address any problem/eventuality.
One issue that was a real road block for them was the issue of lack of trust in the entire ecosystem. In general, people do not trust primitive consultancies. “We are trying to eliminate the issue by building up trust and transparency in the entire system,” Das said.
Established in November 2014, the company is based on the idea of doing something innovative for the lower strata of the company. “We wanted to raise an innovative startup that primarily focused on the lower strata of the society. We explored all the ideas ranging from finance technology to micro lending and came across a prevalent problem- people were not able to find jobs for themselves.”
The team as Aasan jobs understood this well, as one of founders himself encountered the problem when some acquaintance of his was unable to get an appropriate job. So in November 2014, they formed Asasanjobs.com, to address the need.
The enterprise had to contact many venture capital firms in order to acquire funds. “We talked to them about our venture and explained our model to them. We gathered a lot of insights from those meetings. It led us to change a few elements in the technology sphere which, we realized required some improvement.”
IDG venture and Inventus Capital provided the prime support for Aasaanjobs.com helping the startup to raise an astonishing USD 1.5 million in January 2015.
The startup currently has on board a team of 150 people and they deal with 500+ placements per month.
On the e-commerce era, he says, “If the online market is delivering good products, they will obviously rise and succeed. In the end, it is the service of the employee that matters, if the online market is providing better service, they are likely to evolve. The traditional market has to keep up in order to compete and sustain.”
When asked about the SME sector in India, Das was of the belief that SMEs are a very important segment of business society growth. Although Aasaan jobs was established by the private means from scratch, it appreciates the government’s efforts in developing the SME sector in India.
The government’s ‘Skill India’ is proving to be very beneficial for the startups, Das believes. “It is helping to generate a good, skilled labour force. With this support from the government, new enterprises can also get quality employees like those recruited in Wipro or PCS.”
USP of Aasanjobs is to bring in enhanced technology into the recruitment procedures. Also the procedure is widely free for applicants unlike the conventional consultancy services. “Our major aim is to reduce the friction in the entire system and bring in transparency and trust.”
The company is now keen to develop itself on the technology front. It plans to come up with better mobile applications and more accurate algorithms. It is also planning to improve the current website through improved technology.
Aasaanjobs.com, presently based and functioning in Mumbai aims to expand to six other cities in the coming years. (KNN Bureau) connivance
