New Delhi, Jan 21 (KNN) All the start-ups are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) but all the SMEs are not necessarily start-ups, explained General Manager of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Krishna Iyer Mani.

Soon after the launch of Start-Up India policy by PM Modi on January 16, the question has been rising in the minds of all experts and entrepreneurs that how will the line between the SMEs and Start-ups be drawn. The questions have been taking round in the media that how will the government decide that the SMEs which have started in the last 3 years are eligible for the incentives under the start-up India policy or not.

Explaining the difference, SIDBI GM said, “The principal difference between conventional SME and Start-up would be that the start-up will have the Intellectual Property on the day of starting whereas the conventional business will have to build asset with funding from the bank.”
