Bengaluru, Dec 19 (KNN) City based SME, AlphaMERS, which had recently won an award for SME excellence in innovation, has successfully completed its pilot project which aimed at setting out a floating trash barrier in Ulsoor Lake.

The lake which was initially logged with trash and locally disposed garbage is no longer seen in similar conditions, the credit being attributed to the establishment of the floating trash barrier that helps contain floating solid waste in the lakes and rivers. The garbage entering the lake is being accumulated to one side of the barrier, thanks to a floating trash.

DC Sekhar, Director of AlphaMERS, revealed that the barrier was actually been designed to cleanse the Ganga. A basic version of the plan was being used in Ulsoor Lake. The patent of the barrier, however, remains pending.

The project being undertaken two months ago by the company, was done in co-ordination with the municipal authority, BBMP, on pilot basis.

Not only this, the SME also recently undertook the first ever Ship to Ship (STS) transfer operation at Tuticorin anchorage.

The organisation arranged preventive booming around a Ship to Ship (STS) transfer of oil at Tuticorin anchorage. AlphaMERS entrusted with pollution precautions, mobilised 500 m of floating oil booms and deployed around the vessels. The operation concluded smoothly.

AlphaMERS have also been working on developing the design to harness ocean wave energy. Along with that the organisation is also designing a floating security barrier deployed to mark and control waterside access to critical waterside installations.

Keeping its pace with the efforts to improve the conditions in water bodies, the company has an agenda of over twenty identified innovation needs mostly in lakes, rivers and the sea. The company believes it has a quick turnaround to innovation needs and intends to focus on those with immediate revenue potential. (KNN Bureau)
