New Delhi, Nov 7 (KNN) The countdown to Diwali has begun with less than a week to go for the festival of lights. Following the long-run tradition, the markets are flooded with the firecrackers this year also.

The market in Farrukhnagar - Asalatpur village is home to over 50 licensed manufacturers, who sell firecrackers at comparatively cheaper rates – Rs 10 to Rs 30 per item or box.
Firecrackers such as coloured anaar, hand chakri, light pencils, apple bomb, LPG bomb and the old-time favourite, sutli bomb, among other items, are made here.

Lately, the obligations against burning firecrackers following the petition filed in the court had created restlessness among the firecracker manufacturers across the country. However, the verdict by Supreme Court came as a relief to them.

“The obligations against burning crackers in Diwali had worried us, but now as the verdict is out, we are relived and are working till wee hours manufacturing the crackers,” said Iqrar Khan, owner of MIK revolving and fireworks.

Hailing from the family of firecracker manufacturers in Farrukhnagar - Asalatpur, Khan caters to the needs of 2000 people every year on Diwali.

A petition was filed by three toddlers last month, demanding to ban crackers this Diwali, but a leading cracker manufacturer in Sivasaki opposed the petition moving to supreme court for judgement. The court in its verdict denied the ban of crackers, making it a big relief for manufacturers.

A fall in the sale of crackers was expected following the obligation, but it turned out to be mistaken.

“The sale has been the same this year. We were quite sure of making profits as we are a licenced firm and work remaining in the boundaries of what law allows us,” said Khan.
Khan has been running the business for years and ha claims to know the math about the production his company does.

“Diwali, being the most celebrated festival in India, calls for a huge demand of crackers. We, having been working in this sector for so long have developed a tendency to predict how much to produce,” Khan told us.

“We know about our customers and have observed that the production is never over the bar. So there is no leftover,” he added.

MIK revolving and fireworks produces all kind of crackers ranging from small sparkling phuljhadis to huge explosive lightening firebombs.

“I believe that there is not risk in manufacturing crackers until you abide by the law and the licence granted to you,” Khan told us.

To ensure the safety of workers in the factory, Khan followed several measures.

“We make sure that there is no single trace of iron anywhere in the factory, since it could spark a fire which can turn hazardous. We keep the chemicals in different rooms that can be reactive. We also ensure that our workers are safe working with them,” he added.

As long as we are working remaining in the licence, we don’t fear anything. We take full the responsibility to cater to the market as well as to ensure the safety of our workers in the factory, said Khan. (KNN/ J)
