Hyderabad, Dec 5 (KNN)  Despite the high cost of movie tickets, people of Andhra Pradesh are interested in multiplexes owing to clarity in sound and picture along with better facilities.

While 25 per cent of seats are filled for six shows in a day in cities and towns across the country, in Andhra Pradesh, more than 45 per cent of the seats filled.

On their expansion plans, head of Cinipolis India, Devang Sampath said, “We are expanding further in Andhra Pradesh.  We have made agreements with 50 theaters as of now to run the shows.”  He was speaking at an event that marked the opening of Five Screen Cinipolis Multiplex at Manjira Mall, Kukatpally Housing Board.

Currently, the Mexican Corporation Cinipolis is running 3,300 screens in 11 countries.

In India, there is an agreement for 450 screens including this five-screen multiplex while 84 other multiplexes have been inaugurated in other parts of the country.  As many as 80 others are in different stages of development.   One of them is the six-screen PVP multiplex in Vijayawada which will be inaugurated in March.   There are agreements for 39 additional screens in Hyderabad, all of which will be opened within two and half years.

“We are investing Rs two crore per screen in the state which amounts to Rs 100 crore.  All the theatres are of international standards,” Sampath said.

Cinipolis plans to run 500 screens in the country by 2016-17, although the big cities are not their priority.  “We started our first multiplex in the country in Amritsar; Delhi still has no such screen.  Our plan is to arrange screens in all cities where there is a population of 10,00,000 and above.  While 60 per cent of our theaters are in such cities, we plan to construct 40 per cent of our theatres in the larger cities.

On the quality they offer, “We can view pictures with more clarity in 2K digital systems.  We are planning to arrange real 3D system in the country which has been awarded the best in the world.  However, ticket prices will be as per the government orders which are applicable to other multiplexes in the country,” he said.

The group has also formulated mobile applications for purchase of tickets apart from the Cinipolis multiplexes and online website.  One can download Cinipolis ticketing application from the stores of Android and Apple.   In addition, tickets can also be bought through NG pay Mobile ticketing application.  (KNN)
