New Delhi, Oct 32 (KNN) Originated and established in Kolkata, Ornativa.com is joining the sphere of traditional Indian jewellery market with slight innovation. The startup was launched in March 2014, and has already marked it success by the end of the previous fiscal.

Ornativa is fashion jewellery brand designed to succeed in Web based sales of unique designer fashion jewellery and accessories with a strong focus on quality, affordability and reach. The firm has an exclusive collection of all form of jewelleries ranging from earrings, bangles, necklaces, pendants, cufflinks to complete jewellery sets.

We caught up with Nabarun Chakraborty, the co-founder and CEO of Ornativa.com to learn more about the start-up.

“We are a fashion jewellery brand that focuses on quality, affordability and range of our products,” he said.

Chakraborty who holds a Diploma in Jewellary Desining, has rooting experience in the field. After working with renowned jewellery brands in Dubai and Paris, Chakraborty realised the lack of innovation in the field.

“We noticed that there has been a very little innovation in this industry. Jewellery has been purchased the same way as it was since the time of the kings. We have realized that customers are looking for some innovations in jewellery and we are trying to create that.” he told us.

Chakraborty was working with Bluestone.com, a primer diamond retailing platform, when he thought of building Ornativa.

“We realised that a huge part of our population that consists of the youth can’t afford the jewelleries like diamonds whose price touch the sky,” the co-founder said.

We then, thought of targeting and focusing on this section of the society that has been neglected by big jewellery brands. Therefore, our prime market consists of the people who fall in the age group of 16-25 years, he added.

Comprehending the lack of personalised products in jewellery market, the founders currently, are working on two projects. One is customizable products, in which our customers can customize their product online according to their own taste and choice. And other one is Personal stylist, where the customers can get personalized style tips from the team of Ornativa.

Initial stage of development wasn’t a cakewalk for the start-up. Every step towards the enlargement of the firm posed a new challenge for the founders.

“The whole lot, consisting from getting right distributor, to right manufacturer, troubled us,” Chakraborty told us.

Configuring the right technology for the venture also, wasn’t an easy task.

Getting the appropriate funds wasn’t the stress-free trail for the company. After repeat failed attempts in getting a proper investor, the founders pooled in their hard earned money to finance their project.

However, luck seemed to be in their favour when they got selected for ‘IBM Catalyst Program’, ISDI Creative Accelerator powered by Microsoft Ventures and ‘Microsoft Bizspark’.

The six-month programme of ISDI Creative Accelerator will provide office space, business and technology mentoring, Microsoft software, executive and operational support and access to funding.

Chakraborty manages the product development, manufacturing, design, operation and business development related work. Currently, the startup has a team of eight members excluding the founders.

Growing at the average rate of 60 percent month by month, the startup has clocked the revenue of Rs 12 lakh last year and it is targeting Rs 5 crore for the next fiscal year.

“The customized level products are the USP of Ornativa,” said Chakraborty.

Ornativa happens to be a first jewellery platform to offer customised products. The co-founder claims to have a leading quality and design in their products.

“We are different from the existing online retailers. They tend to buy the products from the manufacturers and sell it directly in the market,” he said.

The enterprise has in-house designers who ensure the quality and design of the product delivered. Also, the founders claim Ornativa to be efficient in its functioning.

“The conventional offline stores would take 15-20 days to deliver the order, whereas, we make sure that the product is dispatched in no more than 4 days,” said the co-founder.

Apart from their website, Ornativa has collaborated with big online retailers like and amazon, to sell their products through different platforms.

Ornativa is looking forward to set up a factory of its own in near future to raise revenue. The company is also planning some offline expansion and to widen the team in the coming years.

Having faced  the difficulties in bringing the start-up this high on the ladder without any support, the founders are quite disappointed by the lack of any government support and policies for the emerging enterprises , specifically in Kolkata. (KNN Bureau)
