As the weavers and workers employed in the powerloom sector have been facing several problems, the share of powerloom sector in total cloth production has decreased over the years.
The Government has been taking policy initiatives from time to time to address the problems of the powerloom industry. The Textile Ministry in particular has taken numerous steps to mitigate the problems of the weavers and workers engaged in the Powerloom sector which includes Technical support, poor market access, Group insurance schemes, Group Workshed Scheme, Integrated Skill development Scheme, Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme, Hire Purchase Scheme, scheme of common facility centre, Tex-fund – venture capital fund for Powerloom and allied products.
The Government has also focused on the growth of export in the textile sector where major contribution came from powerloom sector.
The textile industry is confident of achieving good growth and exports to cross USD 40 billion in the current fiscal. (KNN/PIB)
