Wave of handloom products very strong, says MCPCR Chairperson while inaugurating expo at Manipur

New Delhi, April 1 (KNN) A two week long State Handloom Expo 2021-2022 organized by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd under Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles has been inaugurated at Manipur.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) Chairperson Ph Manibabu Sharma noted that the wave of handloom products is very strong.

Every family had a weaving loom in earlier days. The weavers could be considered as economic cultural activists as they have been taking huge responsibilities. In addition to engaging in economic activities and sustaining their families, they also took part in important issues of the state, he pointed out.

Urging the women folk to take up weaving as a profession seriously, he observed that providing economic empowerment should not only be in lip-service.

He further emphasized on using handlooms for school uniforms and assured to extend all possible help to fulfill such initiatives.

Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd managing director Ch Mandakini said that women uplifted the Manipuri society by following social norms and tradition and added that they will continue to uplift it.

In order to become self-reliant, people need to work hard with sincerity and dedication. They should take up their profession with a challenging attitude to bring development in the society.

Moreover, every difficulty should be considered as an opportunity, she remarked.

Around 80 stalls are exhibiting various products in the expo. (KNN Bureau)
