We aim to change the mind-set of Indians about carpooling: Zify
Updated: Sep 28, 2015 11:46:36am
Zify is one of the smartest Ride-Sharing apps in the world. Headquartered in Hyderabad, India and having a presence in Cork, Ireland, it is one of the fastest growing ride-sharing companies.
Ruthvik Reddy, the Community Manager of Zify, unfolds in a small conversation, the prosperous course of the start-up.
“It socially connects car owners with empty seats in their cars with passengers travelling in the same direction based on each other's preferences. It caters to the fast-paced working class population who travel at least 2 times a day & 5 times in a week.” Reddy said while talking to KNN on the essence of the enterprise.
Zify is backed by some of the most prolific national & international investors who have earlier invested in companies like Netflix & Guitar Hero. Zify is also a proud member of NASSCOM 10000 Start-up & IIIT Hyderabad CIE.
The concept of carpooling as such is very old but in many countries, especially in a country like India, people are under a notion that carpooling does not work. Only few companies like Zify are making carpool work.
The idea to start Zify initiated when the CEO of Zify, Anurag Rathor, and our co-founder Pramod Kumar set off to experiment the concept of carpooling.
“Every day they picked up strangers from bus stops and auto stands on their way to their office and vice versa. They noticed some interesting facts,” said Reddy talking about the idea prevailing behind starting Zify.
“Firstly, carpooling does work! In fact it not only works but also makes our daily commute enjoyable, fun and easy. And from there on Anurag wanted to give a solution to the never ending haphazard traffic problems in the cities like Hyderabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai etc,” he further added.
The major obstacle for the firm, according to him, was to change the mind-set of people that carpooling works.
“The problem still prevails” said Reddy.
Adding further, he said, “In India people tend to be pretty adamant about their perception that carpooling does not work because of various reasons like safety issues, the demography of Indian roads etc.”
Reddy has some unprecedented views regarding the e-commerce trend in the country.
As quoted in the interview, Reddy opined that that e-commerce in today’s world has penetrated the global market in a spectacular way.
Reddy said, “When the service meets your demands at your doorstep, that feeling of tranquility is unparalleled. Online shopping is the new tendency. Offline shopping has its advantages as well, but in this era of fast paced life where technology is everywhere and anywhere and the 'click click' experience can come as a savior when you face a time crunch and need to purchase something urgently; and also the cut-throat competition of predatory pricing between online and offline retailers, especially for electronic items, the advantages of online shopping tend to outweigh that of offline shopping.”
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role for the growth of Indian economy by contributing in the industrial output, exports and in employment.
Speaking further on the matter, Ruthvik primarily acknowledges the growth of SMEs in India.
He said, “They create millions of jobs every year and produce quality products for the Indian and international markets. As a result, SMEs are today exposed to greater opportunities for expansion and diversification across the sectors.”
“The Indian market is growing rapidly and Indian industry is making remarkable progress in various Industries like IT, Manufacturing, Precision Engineering, Food Processing, Pharmaceuticals, Textile & Garments, Retail, Agro and Service sectors. SMEs are finding increasing opportunities to enhance their business activities in core sectors,” he added.
In the coming years Zify is planning to infiltrate the Indian market by expanding into every city and create such awareness that carpooling becomes monotony in an Indian’s life, for the welfare of the country. Not only in India, Zify is also planning to expand internationally into markets like Singapore, Japan and more where congestion traffic is a major concern
Government support is a prime key for sustenance of an enterprise and an easy survival of the firm in the rapidly growing market. On being asked about the opinions in this regard, Reddy readily acknowledged the fact that government is playing a major role, not only in the betterment of start-ups but also in encouraging and influencing people to create ideas and solutions with which mankind can prosper in a more efficient way.
“The T- Hub is a great initiative by the government to accelerate the growth of such startups by creating a unique ecosystem. The government has also initiated many campaigns for the betterment of start-ups,” said the entrepreneur.
“One such initiative is the Start-up India which would motivate entrepreneurship among youth in India. Then there is the Car Free Day campaign which stimulated many startups and small scale industries. There are many other such initiatives and opportunities the government is making sure the start-ups in India benefit and provide the world with efficient solutions,” he added. (KNN/ J)
