2nd India-China Yoga Summit; practitioners learn from the masters

Speaking at the opening ceremony, India’s Ambassador to China, Ashok K Kantha highlighted the importance of Yoga and traced its long history.
He said the Summit which is the biggest Yoga event in China has already become a signature event and is generally viewed by serious yoga practitioners as a platform where one can directly learn from the Masters of this practice and to engage in a dialogue that will help disperse all the doubts of the practitioners and helping them align with the roots of this ancient Indian practice, an official release said.
Offering his comments, Vice-Mayor of Yunnan Province, Gao Shuxun talked about the closer cooperation between India and Yunnan province and termed the Yoga summit as an important milestone in terms of cultural exchange between India and China.
He said that the summit will promote Yoga in China and India-China bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the cultural field, thus improving bilateral relations.
Seventeen Yoga teachers from all over India participated in the Summit including Geeta S Iyengar from Iyengar Yoga School Pune, H.R. Nagendra, Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore and from Department of Ayush, Ishwar V. Basavaraddi.
The purpose of the Summit was to guide Chinese yoga enthusiasts to have a more scientific, rational, and objective look towards Yoga.
The first India-China Yoga Summit was held in Guangzhou in June 2011. (KNN/ES)
