FTA Negotiations To Resume; India-EU March 10, India-UK Feb 25

New Delhi, Feb 18 (KNN) India and the European Union have scheduled their next round of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations for March 10-14, according to a senior Indian government official.

Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce L Satya Srinivas announced on Monday that the European Commission delegation will arrive in India on February 28, ahead of the formal talks.

In a related development, UK's Minister of State for Trade Policy Douglas Alexander will visit India for a meeting with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on February 24.

This high-level meeting will be followed by the resumption of India-UK free trade negotiations on February 25.

"We have taken stock of where we left in the last round (14th) and will take it forward during the visit," Srinivas stated regarding the upcoming UK discussions.

The India-UK free trade negotiations were initiated in January 2022 and have progressed through 14 rounds of talks to date.

These developments signal India's continued commitment to expanding its trade relationships with major economic blocs, as it pursues strategic trade agreements with both the European Union and post-Brexit United Kingdom.
