New Delhi, Jul 29 (KNN) With a view to boosting the domestic producers of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), the government has imposed anti-dumping duty on the raw material, PTA, which is used for polyester production. The duty has been imposed in the range of USD 23.75 to USD 117.09 a tonne on imports from China, Korea, Thailand and the European Union.

Anti-dumping duty of USD 62.82 a tonne has been imposed on the import of PTA from China and USD 23.75 from the European Union, according to a notification by the revenue department under the Ministry of Finance.

The duty will range from USD 19.05 a metre to USD 117.49 a metre from South Korea, depending on who is the exporter. The duties will vary from USD 27.49 a metre to USD 99.51 from Thailand. These have come into effect from July 25.

Reliance Industries and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation had filed a petition for imposing anti-dumping duty on PTA. PTA users association has said that the move will create a non-level playing field for polyester producers in the country like the importers, according to a media report. (KNN/SD)
