"We want to encourage and invite SMEs, small scale industries. India has a government that is working on development and aims to increase manufacturing," Modi said while addressing the Japanese investors in Tokyo today at the Japan-India Association event hosted by Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) and Nikkei.
“There is no better place than India for Japanese business,” he said adding, “Come and invest in India: only place you can find democracy, demography and demand.”
Modi has assured the Japanese investors that there is no red tapism but only red carpet in India and said that a lot of regulations have been eased for trade in India.
Indian Prime Minister also said, "Like 'Made in Japan', we aim to turn 'Made in India' into a brand."
Modi said that India now has a government that is working on development and wants to step up manufacturing. He said that as a youngster, he did not have to think twice if a product said "Made in Japan".
Promoting tourism along with inviting the Japanese investors, Modi said, “I have a suggestion also- if you stay in India do not remain in TCS rooms daily. Take time out and travel across India.”
“I can tell you that even if you stay for 6 months and want to enjoy a new dish daily you will not have to repeat a dish,” he added.
Japan yesterday agreed to invest 3.5 trillion yen in a 5-year period in India under India-Japan Investment Promotion Partnership.
Modi also said, “I tried to replicate Japan's model of governance in Gujarat when I was the chief minister."
PM also recalled the major initiative launched by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee -- the Look East Policy -- to strengthen India-Japan relations and said it had now taken firm shape. (KNN/SD)
