India-Bhutan Ink Rs 4,000 Crore LoC, Sign Health MoU

New Delhi, Jul 31 (KNN) India and Bhutan held high-level discussions to review the progress of ongoing development projects supported by India, while also expanding cooperation in key sectors including health and infrastructure.

The fifth round of the India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks was co-chaired by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Bhutanese counterpart Dasho Pema Lektup Dorji on Thursday.

The discussions centred on the implementation of projects under Bhutan 13th Five-Year Plan, with both sides reviewing progress across sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, education, and capacity building.

Rs 4,000 Crore Line of Credit Agreement

A major outcome of the talks was the signing of a concessional line of credit (LoC) agreement worth Rs 4,000 crore (Nu 40 billion). The agreement was exchanged between the Export-Import Bank of India and Bhutan’s Ministry of Finance Bhutan to support development projects in the Himalayan nation.

Health Sector Collaboration Strengthened

Both sides also signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation in medical education and research. The agreement links All India Institute of Medical Sciences with Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences, aiming to enhance healthcare capacity and knowledge exchange.

Support for Green Mobility

As part of India’s support for Bhutan’s sustainability goals, 45 electric vehicles were handed over to the Royal Government of Bhutan to promote green mobility initiatives.
