India, EU Discuss Power Sector Cooperation, Energy Security & Low-Carbon Development

New Delhi, Sep 25 (KNN) Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik held a bilateral meeting with a delegation of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) in New Delhi to discuss India-EU cooperation in the power sector.

The discussions covered energy security, power sector transformation, low-carbon development, nuclear energy, carbon markets and emerging technologies. Both sides also reviewed ongoing initiatives and areas for deeper cooperation.

Naik highlighted India’s expansion of non-fossil fuel capacity, transmission and distribution infrastructure, energy storage and smart-grid systems, along with developments in nuclear energy, energy efficiency and green hydrogen.

The two sides discussed cooperation in long-duration energy storage, digital power-system technologies, green hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage, and nuclear technologies including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

They also exchanged views on carbon markets and carbon pricing, including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

Both sides agreed to continue engagement and technical and institutional cooperation on secure, resilient and sustainable energy systems.
