India, Russia To Advance Bilateral Investment Treaty Negotiations: Finance Ministry

New Delhi, Sep 11 (KNN) Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday met First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov in New Delhi to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, focused on measures to deepen economic engagement, including advancing negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), ANI reported.

“It was agreed to advance negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), with a view to establishing a mutually beneficial framework for enhancing investment flows and economic engagement,” the Finance Ministry said in a post on X.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the financial services sector.

India-Russia Economic Engagement

The discussions come as India and Russia seek to deepen investment and financial cooperation as part of their broader economic ties.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit and is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi. The leaders are also expected to visit the INNOPROM exhibition, organised by the industry and trade ministries of India and Russia.

India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13 under its 2026 BRICS Chairship, guided by the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’.
