Indian and Brazilian govts seeks for research centres for R&D translation projects in biotechnology

The Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the Government of India and the Government of the Brazil concluded on March 30, 2012 in New Delhi.
“The objective is to broaden and deepen cooperation in Science & Technology in the field of Biotechnology; to encourage industrial R&D and related investment flows, bilaterally and/or regionally in the field of Biotechnology and to promote transparency through exchange of information and cooperation among relevant institutions,” said a notification from MST.
The project will cover the research areas such as agriculture biotechnology of sugarcane; biofuels from sugarcane, algae and other innovative approaches; red biotechnology focusing on infectious and neglected diseases and white biotechnology including scaling up and downstream processes for biopharmaceuticals, vaccines and medical products.
In this context, both the involving countries have sought for entities like principal investigators in a university or research institutions and team of principal investigators for scientific and technological R&D translational projects in the area of biotechnology.
For financial support, the notification said the financial agency in each country will support expenses for their own respective national researchers. Funding procedures and eligible costs are subject to national regulations, it said.
The proposals will be shared by Indian and Brazilian side for evaluation purpose. The list of projects recommended for support will be announced simultaneously by both the parties. (KNN Bureau)
