Multi-sectoral product show inaugurated in Kabul

The exhibition cum buyer-seller meet has been organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India, Indian Embassy, as well as Kabul and Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, an official release said.
The event has brought together Indian and Afghan businesses- investors and traders, policy makers, financial service providers, social venture capitalists, angel investors, donors, service providers, corporates and other key players to look at new avenues for business between India and Afghanistan.
More than 40 Indian companies representing sectors as diverse as healthcare, hospitality, education and skill development, information technology, agriculture, machinery and equipment, gems and jewellery, readymade garments, construction equipment and consumer durables have participated in the India Product Show.
Speaking during the inauguration of the event, Afghanistan’s Minister of Economy Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal said, “Afghanistan requires India’s assistance and support to successfully tide over the economic transition,” according to an official release.
Offering his comments, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), Indian Embassy in Kabul, Viraj Singh mentioned about India’s efforts in developing the Chabahar port to provide an alternate transit route for Afghanistan and India via Iran. He urged Indian business delegation to look beyond the buyer-seller relationship and start looking at investment prospects in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, Assistant Secretary General (Africa, Arab and South Asia regions), FICCI, Sheila Sudhakaran emphasized that Afghanistan is on top of the Indian government’s and FICCI’s priority. She added that with the Indian government’s focus on the SAARC region coupled with stable government in Afghanistan will definitely lead to an upsurge in our economic relations.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by more than 250 from the business fraternity, media and international aid agencies, including Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Industrial Affair, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mutasel KOMAKI, and Board Member and Head of International Affairs Committee, ACCI, Azarakhsh Hafezi.
FICCI is the nodal agency to implement the Trade, Commerce and Investment Opportunities Confidence Building Measure envisaged under the Heart of Asia Process for Rebuilding Afghanistan.
Under this process, it has organized numerous capacity building programmes, more than 2000 business-to-business meetings, road shows, innovation fairs and an international conference and exhibition on ‘Doing Business with Afghanistan’ to promote economic development not only in Afghanistan and but also in its neighbouring region.
