Piyush Goyal Holds Key Trade Meetings in London to Boost India-UK Ties

New Delhi, Apr 29 (KNN) Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is on a two-day visit to London, engaging with business leaders and government officials to strengthen economic cooperation between India and the United Kingdom.

On the first day of his visit, Goyal met Martin Gilbert, Chairperson of Revolut App, to discuss opportunities in India’s rapidly growing fintech sector.

They emphasised the role of global partnerships in fostering innovation and expanding the industry.

“Exchanged views on the immense opportunities in India's fintech ecosystem and the importance of partnerships with global players,” Goyal said in a social media post.

Goyal also met Al Cook, CEO of De Beers Group, to deliberate on trends in the global gems and jewellery sector. Discussions covered sustainable practices and the scope for expanding India’s diamond trade.

Later, the minister interacted with members of the Indian business delegation over dinner, discussing India’s industrial growth and exploring avenues for deeper India-UK collaboration.

Additionally, Goyal held talks with Jonathan Reynolds, the UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, to advance negotiations on a long-pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that both sides are relaunching FTA talks, with seven rounds already held. “Both sides remain committed to taking it forward,” he said.

Goyal’s visit highlights India’s intent to strengthen bilateral trade ties and accelerate progress on key economic agreements with the UK.
