Piyush Goyal Invites Japanese Financial Institutions to Step Up Long-Term Investments in India
New Delhi, Aug 25 (KNN) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held discussions with leading Japanese financial institutions in Tokyo on expanding long-term investment flows and increasing Japanese institutional participation in India.
The meeting included representatives from MUFG, Development Bank of Japan, Mizuho, Morgan Stanley, Nomura and Nippon Life, with discussions focusing on India's economic outlook, investment opportunities and measures to facilitate capital inflows.
Goyal highlighted investment opportunities in sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing and digital infrastructure. He also highlighted India's economic growth, expanding consumer market, banking sector strength and policy reforms.
Japanese financial institutions expressed confidence in India's long-term growth prospects. MUFG highlighted its investment of around USD 4 billion in Shriram Finance, while DBJ outlined its India-focused investment strategy across sectors including property development and venture capital.
The discussions also covered issues related to profit repatriation, access to Indian capital markets and regulatory predictability. Goyal reiterated the government's commitment to improving ease of doing business and creating a more seamless investment environment.
The meeting also explored the potential of GIFT City as a platform for facilitating international capital flows between India and Japan.
The discussions come as India and Japan work towards mobilising 10 trillion yen in Japanese private investment into India over the next decade.
