President Murmu Holds Bilateral Talks with Romanian President, Discusses Trade and Investment
New Delhi, Jul 24 (KNN) President Droupadi Murmu reached Bucharest on July 23, 2026, during the final leg of her State Visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania. She held a bilateral meeting and delegation-level talks with Romanian President Nicusor Dan at Cotroceni Palace.
The two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, resilient supply chains and business-to-business engagement. They also agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade between India and Romania over the next three years.
President Murmu said Romania is an important partner for India within the European Union and that the India–EU Free Trade Agreement would create opportunities for industries and skilled professionals in both countries.
India and Romania also agreed to expand joint research and development under their Programme of Cooperation in Science and Technology. An Indian Studies Chair will be established at the University of Bucharest with support from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
The Government of India has also decided to double the number of training opportunities for Romania under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme. The two countries will also commemorate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2028 as the “India–Romania Year of Innovation.”
This is the first State Visit by an Indian President to Romania in nearly three decades.
