Seychelles seeks India's cooperation in MSME and tourism sectors

New Delhi, Aug 5 (KNN) Tourism and Culture Minister of Seychelles Alain St Ange today met the MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra and sought to strengthen cooperation in sectors like SME, Tourism, Civil Aviation etc by exchanging expertise between the two nations. 

He further stated that Seychelles could be considered as the gateway to Africa and that there is tremendous scope improving bilateral trade between both the countries.

Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to strengthen relations with neighbouring countries and to work towards peace and prosperity in the region, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) Minister Mishra assured Seychelles of all help and cooperation in the development of MSME sector. 

The Minister also invited Ange to visit the NSIC-TECHMART exhibition which will be held during the India International Trade Fair in the national capital in November 2014. 

The Seychelles Minister was accompanied by H E Waven William, the High Commissioner of Seychelles to India and a six member business delegation. The Indian side was represented by MSME Secretary Madhav Lal, Joint Secretaries in the MSME Ministry S N Tripathi and B H Anil Kumar.

Further, India and Seychelles also held a delegation level bi-lateral meeting yesterday to discuss tourism cooperation between the two countries. Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, Shripad Yesso Naik and Ange led their respective sides. 

During the 45-minutes talks both the sides noted the important link that India has with Seychelles in the form of Indian nationals who have been among the earliest inhabitants of this island mostly from Tamil Nadu and later on from Gujarat. Together they constitute around 7 per cent of the total population. 

Both the sides agreed to hold Road Shows to promote tourism in each other’s country. It was also agreed that both the countries would work towards constituting a Joint Forum of Tour Operators for promoting their tourism destinations and products. They both agreed to organize familiarization tours for media and travel writers to each other’s country. 

During the meeting both the sides agreed to the view that a direct non-stop flight between India and Seychelles will promote trade and tourism between the two countries in a significant way. Both the sides decided to consider this suggestion. 

The visiting side showed interest in Medical Tourism in India, expertise of India in museums and archives, digitization of records and creative graphic designing. They sought India’s help in these fields. India agreed to consider the request of Seychelles.

Ange extended invitation to Naik to visit Seychelles in the month of October to attend India Day in Seychelles and UNWTO Meeting which is scheduled to be held there. 

During the meeting, India invited investment from Seychelles in the Hotel sector. India allows 100 per cent FDI in hotel sector on automated basis. The visiting Minister of Seychelles agreed to explore the possibilities of promoting investment in the field of hotel industry in India. (KNN/SD)
