Heritage tourism important for creating jobs: Tharoor

He called for increased efforts towards enhancing the economic sustainability of local communities by providing employment opportunities to enhance growth of small scale industries.
New methods and technology must be used for better understanding of our heritage and we should device ways of preserving it for the coming generation, added Tharoor while addressing the 10th Convocation Ceremony of the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology.
He said that art and culture heritage constitute an essential engine for economic development, it will have an overall impact through job creation including improving household income, property appreciation and small business promotion.
Speaking on the occasion Union Minister for Culture Chandresh Kumari Katoch said that the way the country was evolving; opportunities were bound to continuously expand.
She asked the passing out students to act in the spirit of trusteeship and contribute substantially to their roots.
Cultural heritage is the legacy of physical artefacts and intangible attributes of a group or society that are inherited from past generations, maintained in the present and bestowed for the benefit of future generations. (KNN)
