ICAI chief to head the South Asian Federation of Accountants

New Delhi, Jan 2 (KNN) President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants'  (ICAI) Subodh Kumar Agrawal has taken over as the president of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA).

Agarwal is also a member of SEBI panel for reviewing insider trading regulations and part of Small and Medium Practices Committee of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). 

“Subodh Kumar Agrawal, President, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has been appointed as the President of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) for the year 2014…,” according to an official statement.

He was the Vice-President of SAFA for the year 2013. 

Agrawal has earlier been the member of various Committees of SAFA, including Committee for Improvement in Transparency, Accountability and Governance, Committee on Professional Accountants in Business, Committee on Professional Ethics and Independence and Committee on Quality Control. 

SAFA is a forum of professional accountancy bodies in the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) region. Including representations from India, it presently has membership of institutions from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives. 

Bhutan and Afghanistan have given observer status. 

ICAI is one of the founder members of SAFA and also hosts its Permanent Secretariat at the national capital.
