Bengaluru, Aug 9 (KNN)  The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has launched an intensive programme to train potential coffee entrepreneurs in starting high growth businesses.

The Professional Certificate Programme in Coffee Entrepreneurship  to be held from September 19 – 28 is being offered by the Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore (IIPMB) which is an autonomous organisation promoted by the ministry of commerce (GOI) in partnership with the Coffee Board of India.

To be held at IIPMB, the programme aims to build capacities of potential entrepreneurs for the establishment of new businesses in the Coffee Sector and, thereby, contribute to wealth creation and employment generation in India.

Its primary objective is to provide essential techno-managerial knowledge and skills required by potential coffee entrepreneurs to establish and manage high-growth coffee businesses.

Persons interested in starting coffee retailing businesses, roasting and grinding units or any other business in the coffee sector are ideal candidates for the course that will feature resource persons such as coffee industry representatives, technical experts, IIPM faculty etc.

Modules covered in the programme are - opportunities for entrepreneurship in the Indian coffee sector; coffee quality and supply chain management; management of coffee enterprises, business planning in the coffee sector; and support systems and legal issues for coffee businesses.

As far as the programme structure is concerned, there will be theoretical concepts of coffee entrepreneurship introduced through presentations and discussions.  Further, skills in coffee quality assessment, roasting and grinding, brewing and cupping would be imparted through practical sessions at the quality control laboratory of the Coffee Board of India and the Coffee Technology Laboratory at IIPMB.

Participants would have an opportunity to visit coffee plantations and processing units to understand the coffee value chain and the involved entities.  Also, a 2-day internship at an existing coffee enterprise would enable participants to appreciate the real world issues in managing coffee businesses.

Significantly, participants would develop draft business plans that would be reviewed by industry representatives and entrepreneurs.

In addition, participants who successfully complete the program requirements would have access to free online mentoring support (techno-managerial) for a period of six months from the completion of the program.  (KNN/ES)
