IIT Madras launches Smart Mfg & Digital Transformation Centre for industries

Chennai, July 20 (KNN) With the aim to become self-reliant in manufacturing, IIT Madras has launched the Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Centre (SMDTC).

The centre which has been established in association with Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre will focus on providing Collaborative Research and End-to-End Innovation for Smart Process Intelligence. It will also work on 5G enablement and Smart Manufacturing Supply Chain Collaborations.

SMDTC will concentrate on providing Education and Community Interaction for capacity building, maturity assessment and others.

As per reports, SMDTC will create the foundation elements of the manufacturing execution system, IIoT Database and Manufacturing Intelligent Software platforms for Indian MSMEs, adopting Industry 4.0 practices to attain self-reliance in manufacturing.

“SMDTC will lead in provisioning a Smart Manufacturing Model Factory supporting Collaborative Research and Innovation for Industry 4.0 in Process Intelligence, Robotics and Machining Dynamics Control Automation.” said Professor N.Ramesh Babu, Faculty, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras and Secretary, AMDTC, IIT Madras.

Other institutions that have contributed in setting up of the centre include MESA International and Cantier Systems. (KNN Bureau)
