Madurai, Dec 20 (KNN)  To support better mentoring for remote learning, the Directorate of Distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University is planning to develop virtual classrooms and thus promote e-learning.

In this context, it seeks bids from organisations to assist with the development of digital content with text, voice over, animations (2D), illustrations and interactives, creation of e-learning portal with payment gateway, development of virtual classroom software for its Department of Distance Education (DDE).

The distance learning approach provides students with the flexibility they need in order to balance work requirements while completing the same learning objectives of the resident course.

Madurai Kamaraj University is the second university in Tamil Nadu to launch the Distance Learning Programs in 1971.  Considered a vital sociological experiment and an academic innovation, the Distance Learning Program has brought a remarkable change in the educational system in India. There has been a steady increase in the number of students enrolling for the courses through overseas and academic oriented study centres.

Distance Learning Programs have been designed in self-study format, and the contact class lectures are in capsule form to satisfy the intellectual urge of the students.  It is imparted to many categories of students- all segments of society - - through an open-access admissions policy, suitable for late entrants, working men and women, married homemakers, school and college dropouts, the underprivileged and people who have not had access to enhance their educational levels.

The courses offered are both convenient and cost effective than the traditional university education.   (KNN/ES)
