New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) With the objective of assisting research scholars in writing thesis and research papers, a faculty development programme was held recently at the Rukmini Devi Institute of Advanced Studies (RDIAS) here.
The three day programme was especially useful to faculty members that teach Research Methodology and Marketing Research.
Day one began with resource person Neeraj Kaushik informing faculty members and other participants about types of research while focusing on SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) and Research Tools such as parametric and nonparametric tests. The FDP session consisted of freewheeling discussions, taxonomy of methods, group interactions, practical/live demonstrations, real life cases and other participative methods.
Kaushik then emphasized the need for literature review, preparation of questionnaire, how to decide which test to apply where and how to interpret the same. A detailed discussion on statistical analysis and entry into SPSS sheets was followed by data cleaning for perfect results.
Hypothesis testing with the concept of null hypothesis and alternate hypothesis was then illustrated. Also, information was provided on effective googling and types of data, studies, software and methods of data collection, followed by an on-line session on E-Governance by a resource person from IIITM, Gwalior, Srivastava.
The second day saw parallel sessions for management and IT. Real life cases were discussed with the help of a data sheet of questionnaire followed by a complete hands-on interactive session on computers, where participants tried out different possibilities.
The post lunch focussed on hypothesis testing and regression which are equally useful in research along with a study on various patterns, followed by an IT session handled by an expert in Operating Systems, Akasmh Saini. Beginning with a brief history of Linux and its operating system, he discussed the file directory system of Linux to reach the internals of Linux Kernel, and different types of kernels in the market, bootstrap and memory management.
Saini also spoke of the Memory Management System and issues that come up while developing the kernels of Solaris and Linux operating systems.
Day three also saw parallel sessions for Management and IT handled by resource persons - Ajay Chauhan from IMT, Ghaziabad for Management and Gayatri Banerjee, Consultant, Infotech Enterprise and Sachin, DB Specialist, Infotech Enterprise.
The sessions covered the importance of AMOS software and SEM in the field of research with the help of data sheet and how to develop a model in SEM with theory and practical practice in computers. Chauhan also explained the techniques of writing a good research paper and explained how to avoid mistakes while framing a research paper.
Banerjee discussed the early use of GIS and definition of GIS and its benefits to organizations of all sizes and in almost every industry, emphasizing the growing awareness of the economic and strategic value of GIS.
She also demonstrated how to work on GIS tools, how data is stored and how GIS data is represented in real objects such as roads, land use, elevation, trees, waterways, etc. with digital data determining the mix. She unravelled different tools used for GIS data collection and interpretation of MapInfo and Arcgis. (KNN/AL)
