1500 per cent rise in number of registered MSMEs, claims Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi, Nov 22 (KNN) Union Minister of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Nitin Gadkari has said that Udyog Aadhaar scheme has so far brought more than 80 lakh MSMEs under the fold of government schemes, subsidies, easy loans etc.

According to data shared by Gadkari in Rajya Sabha, on Thursday,  the free of cost online registration process, in fact saw a jump of over 1500 per cent in the number of registered MSMEs from 4.95 lakh (4,95,468) as on March 31, 2016 to 80.14 lakh (80,14,502).

Earlier, MSME Ministry had said in its FY19 annual report that as per the National Sample Survey FY16, India has 633.88 lakh unincorporated non-agricultural MSMEs with 36 per cent in trade, 33 per cent in other services, and 31 per cent in manufacturing activity.

While replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, the minister also informed that MSME sector figure has claimed that 4-5 lakh jobs have been added annually for the past three years

As per the Gadkari, under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), the estimated employment generated (number of persons) in micro enterprises during the years 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 has been 4.08 lakh, 3.87 lakh and 5.87 lakh, respectively.

The data further reveals that around 4-5 lakh jobs were created every year, even during the demonetization year.
