2017 to end on a tough note for MSMEs as exporters continue to suffer due refund delays

New Delhi, Dec 27 (KNN) With six months into the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the country, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are to have a tough year end note as complications for exporters persist under the new taxation.

Talking to KNN, V.K Agarwal Past President of Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME) explained the concerns around the ongoing ride of the one nation one tax reform.

Aggarwal said that the industry did welcome the new tax regime, however the complications that the tax reform have brought is making the situation graduate from bad to worse for the sector.

Listing the problems, Aggarwal informed that the refund for exporters is one of the biggest complication due to which the entire manufacturing supply chain is impacted severely.

With the government time and again denying a complication of such a large magnitude, Aggarwal informed that the MSMEs expected a much more serious attitude from the side of the tax office.

Citing an instance, Aggarwal informed that a manufacturer in electrical equipment is on the verge of shutting down its operations amidst blockage of its working capital.  The approach by the government to solve the concern seems to be on a lower priority, Aggarwal lamented.

Commenting over the news reports surfacing that the commerce ministry is planning to come up with single window system for refunds, Aggarwal informed that even if it is implemented, this would ease up things only in the subsequent cycle, while the present difficult time is to persist.

Earlier with regard to the delayed refunds, the government said that it is so because of the glitches on the part of the exporters in filing the necessary returns. (KNN/ DA)
