7 day state level exhibition under National SC-ST Hub of Ministry of MSME commenced in Shillong

Shillong, June 2 (KNN) The 7-day State Level Exhibition sponsored under National SC-ST Hub of Ministry of MSME, Government of India kick-started yesterday in Shillong.

The exhibition is being organized by the Department of Commerce & Industries, Government of Meghalaya.

The MLA and Chairman, Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilization (MCRM), W Shylla graced the inaugural function as Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering, Shylla said that the exhibition will provide a much needed platform for the existing and emerging entrepreneurs and artisans of the State to showcase their products.

Further he said that this exhibition will help the MSME entrepreneurs to expand their business prospects to greater heights.

Talking about the SC-ST scheme of the MSME, he said that the Hub will provide professional support to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs to fulfill the obligations under the Central Government procurement policy Order 2012, and adopt applicable business practices and leverage the Start-Up India initiative. 

MSMEs play a critical role in the growth and development of nation; the sector can nurture and facilitate the development of new age entrepreneurs who have potential to create competitive businesses at global level, he added.

Shylla said the development MSMEs is critical to meet the national imperatives of financial inclusion and generation of significant levels of employment in urban and rural areas across the country.

He informed that the Public Procurement Policy 2012 for MSMEs mandates that Central Government ministries, Departments and Public-Sector Undertakings procure minimum of 20 percent of their annual value of goods or services from MSMEs.

In addition, 4% of total procurement of goods and services shall be made from Micro and Small Enterprises owned by SC & ST entrepreneurs.

“I appreciated the large number of participants, tallying to more than hundred stalls and this will be of great significance in these coming seven days of the exhibition”, he added.  

Among the dignitaries present on the occasion include M.R. Synrem, Commissioner and Secretary, Commerce and Industries, besides officials from various central and state departments.
