AEPC sets up sector skill council to represent SMEs, industry

New Delhi, Jan 1 (KNN) A move which will create employability and develop skill repository and standards in apparel, made-ups and home furnishing, Sector Skill Council (SSC) has been set up with representation from vital sectors like SME, domestic apparel industry etc,
 
“As per the mandate of National Skill Development Council (NSDC) Apparel, Made-ups and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council, has been set up,” according to Apparel Export promotion Council (AEPC).
 
AEPC Chairman, A Sakthivel has been appointed as the first Chairman of SSC. 
 
“SSC is mandated to develop a skills repository, develop standards, evaluation criterion, accreditation system for creating employability in the vital sector, which employs over 12 million workforce,” said AEPC.
 
SSC would have representation from apparel, knitwear, SME, hosiery, fashion design, home furnishing, academia and domestic apparel industry. 
 
The main task of SSC would be to undertake skill gap study, set up national occupational standards, assessment and certification framework development, accreditation framework development, training of trainers and labour market information system. 
 
 “SSC in a 10 years horizon would cover over 18 lac workers to be certified, develop 27 trades for competency framework and 41 number of accreditation organizations,” Sakthivel said.
 
“27 numbers of trade will be taken up for initial gap analysis and the SSC would also make 2126 trainers in a decade.  SSC shall function from Apparel House, Gurgaon,” he added. (KNN Bureau)
