Aluminum majors cite MSME vulnerabilities to secure coal supply for their operations

New Delhi, 28 Oct (KNN) The Aluminium Association of India in its desperate efforts to secure the coal supply has reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

In a written letter to the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, they produced the risk faced by 5000 MSMEs as an alibi.

They presented the data, stating that Aluminium is a power-intensive sector and the current supply being cut down to 10 per cent has affected the industry and is  struggling to sustain operations.

“Collapse of the sector will lead to risk of livelihood for over one million local people,” stated the Aluminium Association of India.

The MSME sector has suggested that the government should rather remove all the restrictions pertaining to import on Aluminium, which will truly help the economy, livelihoods and small businesses.

As India ranks third in the list of Aluminium producers, these reforms will influence a price drop of 10 to 12 per cent, along with government saving INR 2000 crore and improve our position simultaneously.

National Aluminium Co. Ltd, Hindalco Industries Ltd, Bharat Aluminium Co. Ltd and Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) are primary producers of aluminium in India.
