Awareness programme on ZED Scheme being held in Kolkata on Jan 10 for MSMEs

Kolkata, Jan 3 (KNN) A one day Awareness Programme on Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) Certification Scheme is being organized in the city on January 10 for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The programme is being jointly organized by Federation of Small and Medium Industries (FOSMI) along with MSME - DI Kolkata, Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

The main objective of the programme is to create proper awareness in MSMEs about ZED Manufacturing and motivate them for assessment of their enterprises for ZED rating.

According to the organizers the programme aims to drive manufacturing with adoption of Zero Defect production processes without impacting the environment (Zero Effect) and encourage MSMEs to constantly upgrade their quality standards in products and processes.

There would be no participation fee for MSMEs, however participants must have Udyog Aadhaar Registration Number.

Launched by PM Modi during his Independence Day Speech in 2014, the Zero Effect Zero Defect (ZED) certification scheme was notified in December 2016 by the government to hand-hold MSMEs across the country in Make in India sectors through quality control cells constituted by the government, and rate them after carrying out assessment of their products.

The ZED certification scheme with a total budget of Rs 491 crore (including Government of India contribution of Rs 365 crore) will be implemented during the 12th Five Year Plan.

After ZED assessment and adoption of proper tools, MSMEs can reduce wastages substantially, increase productivity, expand their market as lOPs, become vendors to CPSUs, have more IPRs, develop new products and processes etc. (KNN Bureau)
