Balance Sheet suggests ESIC Mohali interested in increasing profits but not their services: MIA

New Delhi, July 3 (KNN) The Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Mohali continues to be in the negative light with cases of irregularities in providing the medical services to the workers insured under it for the reimbursement of medical bills. Raising concerns over the irregularities, the Mohali Industries Association (MIA) obtained the data of the profit procured by the ESIC and compared it  with the services it has been providing.

Talking to KNN, Jasbir Singh, Chairman of Mohali District Association (MIA) said that if one was to go through the data in the balance sheet, it will reveal there has been increase in profits of the Corporation year after year. This explains that there is no dearth of money with the ESIC. Whereas when it comes to providing medical services to the insured workers, the situation is pathetic and deteriorating year by year.

Citing the data from the ESIC balance sheet, Jasbir informed that the profit procured by ESIC in year 2014 stood at Rs 5422.83 crores which has risen substantially to Rs 6164.64 crores in 2016. Comparing it with the level of services ESIC provides to the workers, he said that treatment services to the insured workers are not being provided due to the lack of facilities at the ESIC hospitals.

He further informed that the ESIC has stopped providing super speciality treatment because of which the workers have to approach private hospitals. The ESIC in such cases is supposed to reimburse the bills but that doesn’t happen until the worker approaches the court and files a case against the ESIC.

Also last month there were reports of ESIC medicines being sold on private chemist shops, action against which is still pending. (KNN/ DA)
