While interacting with the MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra in an interactive session on Thursday, Bihar Industries Association said that, “The cost of land is so high in Bihar now, that it is not possible for the MSMEs to buy land and put industries there.”
Mishra interacted with MSME Associations from across the country here on Thursday. This was for the first time the Minister discussed important issues of general, regional and sectoral importance with a pan India gathering after the new Government was formed.
Pointing that Bihar consists 10 per cent of India’s population, the association suggested that there should be a land procurement policy for the industrialists in Bihar under which the land should be available at subsidized rate for them.
They also noted that there is an absence of first generation entrepreneurs in the state for which seed money is needed to establish it.
The association mentioned that lack of job opportunities in the state is one of the reasons why the labourers and workers from Bihar migrate to other states.
According to a recent study, Bihar has registered highest growth rate of 14 percent in the industrial sector during nine years period of 2004-2012 among BIMARU category states -Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh - and even above the average industrial growth at national level. However, the study, titled 'Analysis of BIMARU states', also pointed that lack of land, power and health services and poverty may hamper Bihar's prospects in future.
The study added, "Power and land shortage are the biggest problems that the entrepreneurs are facing today in Bihar. (KNN/SD)
