Centre amends Quality Control Order for switchgear & control gear

New Delhi, May 10 (KNN) The Ministry of Heavy Industries on Tuesday notified a slew of changes in the Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Order, 2020 pertaining to switchgear & control gear and calling it essential in view of public interest.

The central government has taken this decision after consulting the national standards body of India, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 16, read with section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Central Government, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient so to do in the public interest, hereby makes the following Order to amend the Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Order, 2020,” read the order.

A product grouping guideline for obtaining a license from certifying and enforcing authority, i.e., BIS in this regard will be issued separately with the approval of the Competent Authority.

The principal Order, i.e., the Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Order, 2020 was on November, 2020.

Subsequently, extension in timelines for the implementation was given through notification number S.O. 4492(E), dated 18 October, 2021 and S.O. 5083(E), dated 28 October, 2022.
