New Delhi, Jan 9 (KNN) With major fraction of population being involved in unorganised sector or MSMEs, the Union Government has taken the initiative to provide them access to social schemes and benefit by issuing a unique identification number to the workforce.

Principal Labour and Employment Adviser of Union Ministry of Labour and Employment PP Mitra said that we are working to issue a smart card ‘Unorganised Workers Identification Number’ (U-WIN card) for the workforce engaged in unorganised sector soon in the country”.

He was in the Jamshedpur to take part in a function.

Over 90 per cent of the population is engaged in unorganised sector, which accommodates approx. 40 crore people in the workforce.

“Benefits of Union government scheme like pensions and old age scheme would be linked with U-WIN cards” said Mitra.

“The software in this regard had been developed and it would be sent to the state governments for its implementation soon”, he added.

The government taking a step forward for the upliftment of the workforce is not new. Similar programmes like National Service Career Portal were launched by the government to address the problem of unemployment last year in July. (KNN /J)
